Call Before You Dig

Northern Neck Electric Cooperative has many underground electric lines. Because these lines cannot easily be seen, it is important that anyone performing construction contact Miss Utility to have the underground utilities located. Miss Utility is a no cost service that coordinates the locating and marking of underground utility facilities. You should call the toll free number 48 hours before you plan to dig. The Cooperative will be notified by Miss Utility of the impending excavation. A representative of the Cooperative will then come to your location and mark the electric lines. If there are no electric lines in the area the Cooperative will notify Miss Utility that the area is clear. The member should, however, be advised that the Cooperative's responsibility ends at the meter. Any underground electric lines coming from a meter service on a pole belong to and are the responsibility of the member. The member will need to make arrangements to have these lines marked if they are in the area where construction is to take place.

Miss Utility can be contacted simply by dialing 811 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. A minimum of 48 hours advanced notice, excluding weekends and holidays, is required. When you call Miss Utility, please have the following information available:

  1. Location of work
  2. Nature of Work
  3. Work to Begin, Date
  4. Company Doing Work
  5. Person Calling
  6. Telephone Number
  7. Work Being Done For
  8. City or County
  9. Special Instructions
